Rodrigo Otárola y Bentín

Deputy Director, MANO Project

As a first generation Peruvian immigrant, Rodrigo’s experiences in the U.S. instilled in him the drive to work with underprivileged communities in expanding access to opportunities for a better quality of life.

Thus, through his academic trajectory, Rodrigo attained a bachelor’s in History from Cornell University, and a master’s degree in Latin American studies from Georgetown University, expanding his knowledge on issues of human rights, socio-economic inequality and
sustainable development.

Before joining HAF in 2014, Rodrigo put his knowledge into practice by interning for non-profit organizations in the U.S. and abroad. In Chile’s National Human Rights Institute he analyzed the implementation of security policies in marginalized communities, and in
Colombia’s Center for Research and Popular Education (CINEP), he conducted research on peace initiatives and consensus building strategies. Now, as HAF’s Environment Program Associate, Rodrigo strives to incorporate his passion and skills in fostering inclusive
practices and spaces in nature and outdoor recreation.
