Category: News Releases

All Proceeds from Event to Help DACA and Undocumented Students

Hispanic Access Foundation is proud to announce Our DREAMS Scholarship Virtual Auction taking place on June 22, 2021, at 7PM ET. All proceeds from the event will go towards funding scholarships for undocumented youth to provide monetary relief for immigration application fees and other educational needs.

From now until the end of the event on June 22, you’ll be able to bid on a variety of items including a week-long Maui vacation, an iPhone watch, a Dyson hairdryer, amazing art pieces, virtual classes, and more. The Our DREAMS Scholarship Virtual Auction event will include special performances including a  spoken word performer and an appearance from the grammy-nominated Flor de Toloache band.

“With the virtual auction, we hope to raise enough funds to turn Our DREAMS Scholarship into a sustaining resource for Dreamers and provide hope during this time of turmoil,” said Arce. “The costs are steep for Dreamers. Permanent legislation has still not been passed, the requirements to receive DACA are inflexible and expensive, and there is a persistent threat hanging over Dreamers while they’re in the U.S. because of their immigration status.”

HAF is awarding as many as 50 recipients, $500 each in monetary relief for filing or renewal fees for their DACA, TPS applications through the Our DREAMS Scholarship. To be applicable to apply, you need to be eligible for DACA, TPS, or be undocumented while attending undergraduate, graduate or doctoral degrees in an accredited United States college or university. Applications will continue to be accepted until July 15.

“As we’ve seen during the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the most vulnerable communities are people who are undocumented,” said Maite Arce, HAF president and CEO. “Many of our nation’s undocumented youth already have limited resources — to help mitigate that, we launched Our DREAMS Scholarship in 2020 to provide emergency aid funds.
