We rely on technology to keep our operations efficient, coordinate effectively with our national field team, and maximize the impact of our small management team in Washington.
Our customized Constituent Relationship and Project Management System, built on the Salesforce.com platform, combined with our use of iPads in the field, allows us to do the following in real time:
- Collect data
- Connect individuals to service providers
- Conduct surveys in the field
- Accurately report on project status
We've been able to keep our costs down by using high-quality platforms that offer donations to nonprofits, or open-source technologies.
We use this cloud-based constituent relationship management system to track all project activities and outcomes, and contact information of project participants. All partners, educational materials distributed, PSAs placed, activity attendees, and pre/post workshop surveys are recorded in the system. We use dashboard and reports to monitor progress and continually improve results. Integrated text messaging and mass emailing helps us communicate continually with our beneficiaries.
Participant contact information and surveys are conducted in real-time using iPads, which helps to decentralize data entry, streamline project reporting, lower costs, and increase data accuracy.

Our Communication Technologies
Our team collaborates using Google's free Apps package. Thanks to Google Apps for nonprofits we have excellent storage capacity, reliable and free email for our entire team, and on-the-cloud document sharing we can access from anywhere in the country.
Online Communication Strategy
Our organizational website was built using the open-source Drupal platform, again to keep maintenance costs low and make sure that we have access to the latest modules and features.
Through Google's nonprofit program we received an ongoing grant to reach Spanish-speakers on the web through free pay-per-click advertising. This strategy drives thousands of visits to our service provider directory and other parts of our website each month.
We use a donated mass-emailing tool to reach our stakeholders, partners and beneficiaries.
We use Facebook Pages (in both English and Spanish), Causes, and Advertising to reach our audience and build community around our core issues. We're also on Twitter and Google+ to reach partners and stakeholders. Our videos are hosted on YouTube, for easy sharing across the web and integration into our website.
