Nicolas Katz is entering his fourth year at the University of Arizona, where he studies ecology and evolutionary biology as well as natural resource management with an emphasis in conservation biology. Nicolas is particularly interested in landscape and restoration ecology, and their applications in endangered species conservation. Nicolas plans to pursue graduate studies in landscape and restoration ecology and has enjoyed working with multiple lab groups throughout high school and college. So far, he has been involved in mammalian, avian, aquatic, plant, and microbial ecology through his own research and as a field and lab technician. He has additionally enjoyed working in science education and outreach with multiple groups at UArizona and hopes to continue this work in the future. Nicolas currently conducts research on biological soil crusts, works as an intern with science applications at the Fish and Wildlife Service, and is a leader for the UArizona Chapter of Defenders of Wildlife. In his free time, Nicolas enjoys rock climbing, cycling and mountain biking, backpacking, and photography.
