Hispanic Access Statement on Sen. Harris' California Stewardship Bills
WASHINGTON, DC – Maite Arce, President and CEO of the Hispanic Access Foundation, released the following statement in response to Senator Kamala Harris’ introduction of the Northwest California Wilderness, Recreation, and Working Forests Act and San Gabriel Mountains, Foothills, and Rivers Protection Act. These two bills support responsible stewardship, as well as meaningful access for all communities to our public lands.

Latino Youth Celebrate Their Hispanic Heritage with Fishing Derby at El Dorado Regional Park
LOS ANGELES – 94 Latinos from Fontana and Santa Ana, 61 youth and 33 parents from Por la Creación Faith-based Alliance, and a total of over 600 youth attracted by the Dan Hernandez Youth Foundation, took to rods and reels this past Saturday for a freshwater fishing experience at El Dorado Regional Park. The fishing derby held by the Dan Hernandez Youth Foundation with support from Hispanic Access Foundation, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and The City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine, taught multi-generational families basic fishing instruction, water safety, and hands-on conservation and aquatic stewardship activities.
Lilly Endowment Awards Hispanic Access Grant to Develop Faith Leader Capacity
WASHINGTON – Hispanic Access Foundation has received a grant of $998,415 to help establish the “Hispanic Leadership Network: Enfoque Ministerial (A Focus on Ministry for Thriving Congregations).” It is part of Lilly Endowment Inc.’s Thriving in Ministry, an initiative that supports a variety of religious organizations across the nation as they create or strengthen programs that help pastors build relationships with experienced clergy who can serve as mentors and guide them through key leadership challenges in congregational ministry.
HAF Wins Best of Washington Award for Nonprofits
WASHINGTON – Hispanic Access Foundation has been selected for the 2018 Best of Washington Award in the Nonprofit Institutions category by the Washington Award Program, an annual awards program honoring the achievements and accomplishments of local businesses throughout the Washington area.

A Valuable Internship
The morning of January 16th, 2018, I embarked on a five hour drive from my hometown in Reedley, CA to South Lake Tahoe, CA; to begin a new job with the USDA Forest Service. I accepted the job in December and almost changed my mind due to housing issues. South Lake Tahoe is a highly visited tourist area, therefore affordable housing is very difficult to find. Thankfully with the help of Hispanic Access Foundation and Co-workers whom I had not yet met, I was able to find a place to live.
