Reverend Cali: Crisis opens a new path for challenges and opportunities

Written by: Super User

This pandemic exposed something far more than a health crisis.  It exposed weaknesses in a system that was not prepared to face them.  Without a doubt the challenges multiplied in all areas in a radical way: socially, politically, personally, familially, spiritually, and in the ecclesial arena amongst others.  It changed the way we see and enjoy life.

It also changed our agendas, priorities, and perspectives of how we observe and analyze the reality that surrounds us.  The fabric of humanity throughout history demonstrates how both are aligned with different events, life lessons, and experiences that man has had to confront.

In particular, our Faith Community had to discard things that could no longer be a part of this new context and structures that could no longer function in these conditions.  This crisis shook more than the church’s systems, it shook our way of life.  Without a doubt this sudden and unexpected change put structures in jeopardy allowing us to see if they were still aligned well to appeal, respond, and satisfy these needs. Obviously this did not happen because each structure emerges from a life lesson and an experience, and this pandemic brought new paradigms. There is no doubt that from here on new challenges will come for the church and for the development of the ecclesial mission.

What at the beginning appeared to be a hurricane that would uproot and destroy everything in its way, it became, at the same time, an opportunity with new challenges that were never dreamed of.  Months ago perhaps some would have thought that the use of technological tools such as video conference calls, Zoom, live streaming on social media through Facebook or Youtube would become detrimental in fulfilling the ecclesial mission.  However, without a doubt, this crisis provoked an awakening of a new paradigm on how to nourish interpersonal relationships along with community and bring about a new possibility of interaction, progress, and growth amongst the brethren.
