Hispanic Access Foundation Announces the Inaugural Roberto A. Salazar Legacy Scholarship for Undocumented Students

Category: News Releases

Today, on June 15, Hispanic Access Foundation is proud to announce the Roberto A. Salazar Legacy Scholarship, a $10,000 cash award to an undocumented student enrolled in an accredited college or university.

This scholarship was created to honor Hispanic Access Foundation’s founding Board Chair, Roberto A. Salazar, his service to our mission, commitment to the growth of Latino leadership and representation, his passion for supporting Latino students and to commemorate the 11th anniversary of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), the policy that protects young people who entered the United States unlawfully as children.

"Our nation’s undocumented youth not only have very limited resources and face daunting obstacles making them extremely vulnerable, but they are also an incredible social and economic asset to the nation," said Maite Arce, Hispanic Access Foundation President and CEO.

"Dreamers are part of our community and contribute to our country’s prosperity, yet they are constantly under threat because of their immigration status. We want to provide them with access, capacity, and the belief to create big changes. Through this scholarship, we hope to provide financial assistance and relief to an amazing Latino student who resonates with Hispanic Access’ guiding principles."

Hispanic Access Foundation will award $10,000 to the student to use within the first year of their college education. The scholarship will be disbursed per school semester or quarter. Leadership training and mentoring for the student will also be provided throughout their college career.

More details on the scholarship, the criteria, and how to apply will be announced online in September in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.
