The selected grantees will implement projects prioritizing tree canopy expansion and biodiversity, while improving well-being and access to nature. Currently, many neighborhoods and communities across the U.S. experience significant disparities in tree coverage, with some areas having substantially less green space than others. These grants aim to address tree canopy inequities by restoring green spaces and increasing tree coverage, creating more vibrant, healthier, and more resilient environments.
“We are thrilled to partner with these organizations as they take meaningful action to expand tree canopies, reduce environmental disparities, beautify communities, and create lasting impacts for families and future generations,” said Maite Arce, Hispanic Access Foundation President and CEO. "These grants empower faith-based and community organizations to build healthier, more resilient neighborhoods, and we’re excited to support them every step of the way."
In September of 2023, the USDA announced funding awards of $1.13 billion, including awards for 12 national pass-through organizations. Hispanic Access Foundation received a $25 million award from the USDA Forest Service to become a national pass-through partner for the “Nuestros Bosques Initiative.”
