Simonis a recent graduate from the University of Colorado Boulder. He graduated with a bachelors of arts in Environmental Studies and two minors in Economics and Business. While at the University of Colorado Boulder he competed in a sustainability competition where he introduced his project of a comprehensive environmental impact data base that would help the university attain their climate goals. In addition to this he attended a study abroad program in Iceland where he conducted research into renewable energy initiatives and their effects on the local populations of the country. He is looking to continue down this path by pursuing a Masters degree in data science and using this to focus on creating data driven decisions in order to improve sustainable policy making and implementation.
