Nicole (Nikki) Imamura is currently a rising undergraduate Senior at the University of Guam, working as a USFWS DFP intern with the Ecological Services Marianas Field Office. She is pursuing a degree in Integrative Biology, and plans to attend graduate school in hopes of furthering her studies in conservation biology and sustainable development. As a Freshman at the University of Guam, her journey with conservation work first began when she was inducted as one of the National Science Foundation INCLUDES Fellows. She studied the effects of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi, and different ways in which it can be implemented to aid in native plant revegetation of Guam’s southern badlands. Additionally, she also worked as an Extension Research Assistant where she processed and analyzed soil, microbial, and plant specimens. Although her past research focused primarily on plants and habitat restoration, she hopes this program will provide her with more exposure to various wildlife species on Guam. Aside from research, her hobbies include freediving, birding, and performing as a cultural dancer for the Tao Tao Tasi Dinner Show. Overall, she hopes to become a conservation biologist, accelerating endangered species recovery and raising more community awareness throughout the Marianas.
